Dr. Shurun Fan, L.Ac.
From Cardiothoracic Surgery to Integrative Chinese Medicine
Dr. Shurun Fan graduated in 1995 from the Department of Clinical Medicine at Southeast University in China. After graduating, he practiced cardiothoracic surgery at the Fifth Affiliated Hospital of Zhengzhou University.
In 2008, he was promoted to Associate Chief Physician and began serving as the director of Cardiothoracic Surgery in 2009, overseeing the administrative and surgical aspects of the entire department. He also contributed to medical education and clinical research at Zhengzhou University Medical School. During his practice, Dr. Fan has received several titles of excellence at the provincial, municipal, and hospital levels. He has served as a committee member of the Medical Association in Henan Province and Zhengzhou City, holding positions in various medical organizations. He was also selected to the expert panel for medical accident identification by the provincial and municipal Medical Associations.
During his surgical career in China, Dr. Fan specialized in the diagnosis and surgical treatment of congenital heart diseases, valvular heart disease, lung cancer, esophageal cancer, and mediastinal tumors. He performed thousands of surgeries and developed extensive experience in managing urgent, critical, and complex cardiothoracic cases.
Throughout his career, Dr. Fan has published dozens of papers in various journals, earning respect among patients and colleagues. To enhance postoperative recovery for patients, he incorporated some traditional Chinese medicine methods into his practice, achieving positive results. Due to his strong interest in traditional Chinese medicine, from 2006 to 2009, he systematically studied acupuncture and Tuina through Beijing University of Chinese Medicine.


After moving to the United States, Dr. Fan pursued advanced studies in Traditional Chinese Medicine at the University of East-West Medicine and Vitality University, earning a Master of Science in Traditional Chinese Medicine and a Doctor of Acupuncture with a Chinese Herbal Medicine Specialization, respectively. He subsequently became licensed as an acupuncturist in California.
With more than 30 years of combined clinical experience, Dr. Fan brings together a strong background in Western medicine and extensive training in Traditional Chinese Medicine. He emphasizes personalized, comprehensive, and integrative care, tailoring each treatment plan to the patient’s symptoms, health history, overall condition, treatment goals, and response to care. He is deeply committed to serving individuals and families with compassion, patience, and dedication to their health and well-being.
